This week I read a blog post by Tina
Barseghian about changes that need to occur in terms of teacher
education. I realize that this is an American based post, but it still
outlines some important changes that I think need to occur for teachers
in training here in Canada. When I completed my degree I thought I was
fully prepared to teach, but stepping into my own classroom for the very
first time felt very different. There were aspects of that day to day
teaching experience that I was missing. Now that I am learning about
all of this integration of technology, I feel even further behind in my
teacher training and learning some of this during my undergraduate
definitely would have been a benefit.
I also read a post about a programs that are being created to help
teachers prepare to teach in a digital world (namely teaching courses
online). This would reqiure a very different outlook on teaching and
presenting a course than the traditional classroom setting would. The
only arguement is whether it should be taught to at the undergraduate or
only the graduate level.
